How to Make the Most of a Trip Abroad

0

Travelling to a different country is one of the greatest adventures you can go on. Whether you’re about to embark on a study abroad program or if you’re travelling for work, there are a few different ways you can do to make the most of the opportunity you’ve been given.

Document your Travels

Travelling opens you up to a world of new experiences. Make it easier to remember every incredible thing you do by documenting it. Not only will you be able to look back whenever you want, you’ll also make it possible for family and friends to keep up with you while you’re away. Unsure where to start? Here are a few recommendations:

  1. Start a travel blog: write down your favourite moments of the day/week and keep them together in one spot.
  2. Create a travel Instagram account: if you prefer taking photos, create a travel-themed account where you can post as many Throwback Thursday’s as you like.
  3. Become a vlogger: grab your camera and start vlogging your adventures. While you’re at it, start your own YouTube channel. Even if you don’t want to make your account public, you can use your channel as a spot to store all your travel videos via the ‘unlisted’ option.

Eat to your Heart’s Content

Food is an essential part of the travelling experience. No matter where you’re going, you can be sure that there is a local cuisine or dish that the country is known for. Make a point to see what all the fuss is about and try it! For example, are you headed to the U.K.? Don’t miss out on traditional fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding or haggis. Or are you perhaps jetting off to Spain? Try out paella valenciana or gazpacho.

Tip: If you’re feeling adventurous, try the same dish at a few different spots and create a ‘who does it best’ post in a blog or on your Instagram account.

Make a Bucket List

To make the most of your time in a different country, make sure you do some research beforehand.
Write down the places you want to see and the things you want to accomplish before you arrive. Your list doesn’t have to be enormous, but having something to guide you before you go can make a world of difference. Start by searching:

  1. Famous landmarks
  2. Museums
  3. Festivals
  4. Popular restaurants & hidden gems

Tip: Be flexible. You’re bound to get recommendations for places to go from people you meet along the way.

Do Things Alone

Step out of your comfort zone and embrace new experiences. Visiting places alone can give you a whole new sense of self-discovery, determination and independence. Besides, there might be times when friends, family or coworkers don’t want to do things that you do. Instead of letting that hold you back, have it push you forward.
If you embrace every opportunity and put a few of the above suggestions into action, you’re bound to make the most of your trip abroad. We wish you safe and happy travels!
