Nowadays internships are a crucial and, in many cases, a compulsory part of education. Are internships in New Zealand the new hype among Canadian students?
Aotearoa, or simply, “The Land of the Long White Cloud”. This is how New Zealand’s native Maoris call their country, lovingly revealing its uniqueness. There are a variety of reasons why students decide to do their internship in New Zealand. People fall in love with the country’s unique natural beauty and its outstanding scenery in a sunny and mild climate. In fact, New Zealand has been the backdrop for many a famous movie, including Lord of the Rings.
New Zealand can offer a variety of landscapes; beautiful long beaches along the coastline, impressive mountain ranges, tropical forests, deserts and volcanic islands. For the adrenalin-seekers and sports-enthusiasts, the country also offers a whole range of sports and crazy activities; it is the home of Bungee Jumping and Zorbing, and famous for the longest left handed wave breaks, rugby, wines, and outdoor activities.
Why take an internship in New Zealand?
Why not? It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop your career skills while exploring one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It’s a safe environment and people are friendly, so it’s easy to get along. More and more multinational companies across all industries are moving into New Zealand, especially in Auckland, the country’s largest city and financial centre so there is a wide range of internships available.
Canadians will find some things similar to home – the enormous space, natural beauty and friendliness. However, the combination of a warm, sunny climate with the choice of year-round adventure sports, as well as almost year-round skiing and snowboarding, will make it a magical experience.
Many internship opportunities fall within the following fields; PR, marketing, communication, research, design, and engineering. “We have had candidates from almost any background, and the feedback from New Zealand employers is very positive about Canadian students & graduates”, says Marianne Beekmans from the New Zealand Internships Team, an Auckland based internship company. Organizations like New Zealand Internships not only help with the internship, but they can also help students with their visa, long term accommodation, social activities, and travel plans.
